News Channel 2 (WKRN) in Nashville reported Friday, March 9 that the Tennessee Titans have opted to release three more players since Demarco Murray was cut on Thursday.
Quarterback Matt Cassel, safety Da’Norris Searcy, and wide receiver Eric Weems were notified that they would no longer be with the team going forward.
Matt Cassel has been a 13-year NFL veteran and was the backup for Marcus Mariota during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Cassel has been a journeyman, playing for the Patriots, Chiefs, Vikings, Cowboys, Bills and Titans. He saw limited action in 2017, throwing 25-42 for 162 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Searcy has played seven seasons in the NFL. He had three interceptions during his time in Tennessee. Prior to being with the Titans for three seasons, Searcy spent four years in Buffalo for the Bills where he had five interceptions. Weems, who has been in the league for 11 seasons, was primarily a special teams guy for the Titans. Weems was with the Falcons for eight years, the Bears for two seasons and the Titans for one.
